2011 brought a new champion to Maranello and they produced just 125 for the US market and 599 examples of them worldwide; the 599 Gran Turismo Omologato*. It may not be as outrageous as the Enzo, but it is more powerful, more agile, more precise, and faster and does it all with more sophistication. The GTO laps Ferrari's private Fiorano race circuit in 1 minute, 24 seconds and will leave the howling 458 Italia choking in its exhaust. Lurking under the hood of the very rare supercar is a hulking 661 HP V12, capable of accelerating from a dead stop to 60 MPH in near 3 seconds, and a top speed of over 208 MPH. The GTO name recalls the classic 1962 250 GTO and the turbocharged 288 GTO of 1984 --- shares a familial resemblance with its 599 GTB sibling, but it's an altogether more dominating and purely distilled machine. Inside, the GTO's coolest feature is the new Virtual Race Engineer (VRE) display. Picture the G meters you've seen on TV broadcasts of Formula 1 and IndyCar races, and you'll understand how VRE works. Moving up and down and side-to-side along its X and Y axes, the VRE displays g readings during acceleration, braking, and cornering. The screen can also be configured to show the driver how closely he's approaching the GTO's maximum capabilities on each part of the race circuit. Fascinating, useful information --- and just another example of "trickle-down tech" from Ferrari's F1 stable. Complete with all driver's manuals, keys, tool kit with leather cases, and a fresh service performed by our Ferrari factory trained and certified tech team.
